Forewarning: I have a capslock/full throttle issue, basically all I talk about is various super attractive fictional people and how much I feel they should be making out, I find nothing on youtube as hilarious as I find this, I live in a near-constant state of nostalgia, I like lame things, by the time I get around to seeing the hip movies they are no longer hip, I only shower every other day, I think new shoes are exciting news, I maintain a secret fondness for Lindsay Lohan (PARENT TRAP, dammit), 93% of the time I will pick fun TV over good TV, my most dominant personality trait is contrariness, my favorite sport will probably always be figure skating, I am boring.

But if you want to be friends anyway, this is the place to ask.

I have this unicorn.

You see, when I started watching Friday Night Lights with my mom, she offhandedly mentioned how much she loved Kyle Chandler in some show about the forties she and Dad used to watch. My response was something like, "oh, Early Edition? I don't think that was about the forties, Mom", and then, idk, I guess we had to cry about whatever was happening in the episode so we dropped it. Still, the only TV shows I remember my parents ever watching when I was young are Seinfeld, Star Trek: the Next Generation, and that one show about Alaska whose name is escaping me at the moment, and those were all followed pretty spottily because we as a family were above serial fiction and the way it suspends consumers for profit (my Dad was in his full-on, twenty-something, pretentious douchey "hippie" phase), and so, eventually, I looked into it.

YOU GUYS, THIS IS AN ACTUAL SHOW:

I guess perhaps not everyone has grown up as enamored with the 1940s as I have, so maybe you don't quite understand that this silly little theme song has my inner obsessor full-on salivating (although this is perhaps also simply because it is a theme song: I LOVE DORKY THEME SONGS, you guys, and they are so unfortunately untrendy these days). ALL THE FAMILIAR FACES ARE SIMPLY ICING ON THE CAKE. There's also this... clip thing, which is so enjoyable it makes the whole thing worse.

Worse because in the age of amazon, netflix, youtube, hulu, and various other methods of procuring any television episode you want IT DOES NOT EXIST. It has disappeared into the abyss, spawning only this plea to Warner brothers to release a DVD set (IT ALSO HAS DELIGHTFUL CLIPS, THOUGH, YOU GUYS: COACH TAYLOR IS DEEPLY IN LOVE WITH AN ADORABLE GIRL! LILY VAN DER WOODSEN IS A BADASS) and a handful of disgruntled internet users, fussing about cancellation and how much money they would spend if such a DVD set did exist. Unfortunately I am now one of these fools. DAMN IT, just the teensy bit I have seen has me deeply in the throes of love. BUT I WILL SEE IT SOMEHOW. I WILL FIND THE DAMN UNICORN.

Ugh, I do not know what to request for Yuletide with Psych eliminated this year. BLERG.

Dudes, I have never really been a TV on DVD kind of person. I'm sure I own significantly more of it than your average non-fandomer, but my collection is mostly made up of gifts and "it was on sale at Target!" stuff. Furthermore, watching them is a pretty infrequent activity for me -- usually it's one episode at a time or a "HEY [FRIEND], YOU'D TOTALLY LOVE THIS SHOW" kind of situation. Until September 2009, I guess! I was sick earlier in the month and I developed a paralyzing addiction to background noise. Uh.

Anyway that lead to this week: the first time I have watched season 1 of the O.C. since our terrible horrible breakup during season 4 (which is a long and boring story and a couple of you had to live through it the first time, but suffice to say I am perhaps bitterer about the O.C.'s demise into suckitude than any other TV thing -- not because it was worse, but because we were in a loving monogamous relationship once upon a time, the O.C. and I, and it just hurt me and hurt me and I just took it until finally I couldn't take it anymore. I was also fifteen, so there's that). I thought about breaking strike and rewatching it this summer, but then I was distracted by... other things.

In any case I've finally realized that my bizarre fascination with adult characters on teen shows stems from a love of playing 'put the small vague canon puzzle pieces together and figure out the backstory yourself!' which, HAR HAR, is probably totally unrelated to why I love Mulder and Scully so much. But let us get on with unraveling the mystery history of Sandy and Kirsten Cohen. )

In conclusion, I totally did not realize until today that Rufus Humphrey's band name is an O.C. homage.

FIRST OFF, I'M BORED, YO:

Ask me a fandom, and I will tell you my:

+ OTP
+ Runner-up
+ Honorable mention(s)
+ Crack pairing(s)
+ Ship everyone else seems to like, but I don't

Although I feel like my shipping tendencies are tragically obvious in almost all my fandoms, so, well. But maybe I will surprise you!

I can feel the weight of October pressing and maaaaan I still have no idea what I'm doing for Nano. CRAP. It doesn't help that Sophi is my only ~real life~ friend doing it this year and half the fun of doing Nano is being eons ahead of all the real life friends, except for Sophi because Sophi exists mostly to write like the wind and make the rest of us feel bad about ourselves. THIS YEAR, THE REST OF US IS ME. She's already got a head start and is fully plotted, because she is a crazy person. So that'll be fun. What about you kids though, you doing it?

I alsoooooo booked a flight to Austin the weekend of my birthday. MATT'S EL RANCHO HERE I COME, HELL YEAH.

unpopular glee opinions! unpopular in the sense that no one will share them, not that they will negate anyone's happy feelings and/or your popular opinions. actually i'm mostly talking about the first thing, the rest is pretty much just straight up, everyday opinions. )

P.S. I don't know what it is about Glee but it brings out the worst in people's ability to use spoiler cuts, but EVERY SINGLE WEEK I have gotten a little bit spoiled by flisting in the hour before it airs here. Hey eastern and central time: not everyone gets to see things as soon as you! I know I can't police you and nothing major has been uncut, but just think about it before you post that one funny quote/your detailed emotional reaction to whatever in the middle of watching it! It's not that big a deal for me to avoid the internet the hour before tv starts, but then there are the west coasters and the non-north Americans for whom it takes even looooooonger so just, you know, think about it. It's considerate!

Anyway this has been sitting in semagic FOREVER, apparently I've forgotten how to post:
The meme goes as follows: Comment, and I will give you a person. Find a picture of that person for each category. Post the results in your journal.

The truly amazing thing about my TV schedule this fall is that I was not even trying to slim it down. There was no inner voice that said "shit, Alexandra, you watch so much television, maybe you should make your life less stressful and drop some of it!" In fact, my inner voice? KIND OF AN ENABLER. But anyway this is what I'm watching:

lj cuts add dramatic tension to otherwise potentially blah entries )

SO THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF INFORMATION WE CAN GLEAN FROM ALL THAT AND ALL THIS "OOH FALL TV" TALK IN GENERAL IS THAT FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS IS COMING BACK TO DIRECT TV ON OCTOBER 28. Friday Night Lights!!! My favorite little darling that never ever disappoints me (with the obvious exception of those two storylines in season two, but at this point we have all accepted and grown past those little bits of stupidity, especially since they are directly retracable back to our least favorite network NBC and their gross meddling! Plus, I mean, okay, despite Landry, Tyra, and Matt, season two has a lot of shining moments. LET US NOT FORGET THIS).

ANYWAY, FLIST. You are far far far too behind on this show. Only five or six of you kept up with season 3 as far as I know, and there a lot more of you who have seen all of season one and know how much you love it. And of course there are plenty of legitimate reasons for falling behind, but the time has come to catch up. You have 53 days to watch 13 magnificent episodes of television (twenty-eight if you didn't watch season two either), THAT IS EASY PEASY. We are internerds, we can consume twice that in a quarter of the time. And as motivation, I have prepared for you a mostly unspoilerly picspam from my brand new season 3 DVDs ($23 at Target right now, THAT'S NOTHING AND YOU KNOW IT) to remind you how much you love all of these characters and their pretty pretty show. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

So internet! I was looking for pictures of my man Frank Sinatra, and I put in fuckyeahfranksinatra.tumblr.com to see what it would produce, only to find that it did not exist. This is clearly a wrong that needs to be righted, SO, UH:

fuckyeahfranksinatra.tumblr.com

You are obviously not obligated to follow it or anything, since it is themed and I... suppose it is possible to dislike him. But I thought I would say! I know what I'm doing with the blog itself, I am kind of puttering around and figuring out the technicalities of the twitter interface (OMG THE QUEUEING FEATURE!!), but uh, does some nice person want to give me a rundown on tumblr etiquette? Following people, that... kind of thing? I'm a little out of my league here.
